Wood floors lend a touch of classic sophistication to any room. Achieving the look you want requires some careful planning, with a little bit of homework. From initial budgeting to selecting materials and scheduling professional renovation services, preparing for a successful hardwood flooring installation requires legwork. When reviewing project details, don’t forget to factor in seasonal temperatures to protect your investment. Discover why installing hardwood floors in winter can be beneficial.
Seasonal temperatures can have an impact on any home renovation project. When it comes to installing hardwood floors, winter is the optimal season since it provides ideal conditions to ensure your flooring lasts.
Like any other natural, porous product — hardwood flooring will react to changes in the environment and can absorb moisture. Because of this, if installation is completed in the highly humid NJ summers, floors may become susceptible to distortion. In addition, moisture buildup in subflooring can cause floorboards to warp over time, leading to dangerous mold and mildew.
Fall and winter are the best seasons for hardwood floor renovations. During cold, dry weather your home is exposed to less moisture. Therefore, less moisture will be trapped underneath the floorboards. Generally, wood flooring performs best when the interior environment maintains a relative humidity range of 30 to 50 percent and a temperature range of 60° to 80° Fahrenheit.
The National Wood Floor Association (NWFA) advises that optimal relative humidity levels should range between 30%-50% to ensure successful long-term performance of your wood flooring.
Keep in mind, that it’s important to let hardwood flooring acclimate before installation. This process involves storing the floorboards in the room where the installation will take place for up to one week. This will ensure that the wood has had enough time to adjust to the surrounding humidity levels, while minimize gapping, cracking and buckling after installation.
Although hardwood flooring can be installed year-round, the cooler temperatures make fall and winter ideal times for installing hardwood floors. This is especially true in New Jersey, due to the particularly humid summers. If you’re heading on vacation over winter break, consider scheduling your flooring renovations to lessen inconvenience for you and your loved ones.

My wife and I are extremely happy with the result! The staff was professional, safe, tidy and quick! They had our old flooring torn up and the new floor installed in less than 48 hours which was a plus because losing use of our main room in the house for a long period of time would have been a real headache! Everything from the estimate, to the tear up, to the installation and completion of the job was smooth and done with the highest degree of quality and stellar workmanship. Would HIGHLY recommend!

Gorsegner Brothers did an absolutely fantastic job on my living room floor refinishing – they took all of the dog claw scratches right out and made the floor look better than it did when I moved in. Highly recommended!

I used this company and found the entire experience to be a pleasure. All the work was done to my satisfaction with minimal inconvenience. My entire first floor had to be ripped and replaced. I have had my floors done twice before, by other contractors, and went through many issues which were absent with Gorsegner. I am still admiring the floors today. The dustless system is a miracle. After the sanding I could run a finger anywhere and not find any dust.

They refinished the wood floors in our kitchen and dining room. The work was done on time and completed with no mess. Most importantly, the result was beautiful. The floors looked much better than they did when they were first installed. We could not be happier with the result.

Gorsegner Bros installed, stained and finished a hardwood floor in my den. There was a problem in the way the floor was sanded such that the stain was darker in several areas along the edges. Gorsegner immediately re-sanded the entire floor and the result is perfect. Errors can occur with any work being done, but Gorsegner’s customer service and willingness to immediately correct a problem to the customer’s satisfaction is greatly appreciated. I will certainly use them again without hesitation.

We hired Gorsegner Brothers to refinish a bedroom floor that suffered water damage during Superstorm Sandy. They did such a phenomenal job and were so incredibly professional that we had all of the floors in our house refinished by their company. I was amazed at how they were able to extract such incredible beauty from the dingy, dirty, old wood floors we had in our house. We are in the process of repainting and redecorating the entire house as a result.

Everyone, from the estimators, to the office staff and the work teams were courteous, professional and efficient. Diego, the leader of our work team, was exceptionally knowledgable and helpful with choice of color and how to go about each phase of the sanding/refinishing process (sanding straight line areas of the job rather than each room as a whole). They worked long hours and were meticulous about their work.

My husband, who is extremely meticulous and normally does all the work in our house, was as impressed as I was at the results of the work.I have passed their name onto another family and will definitely call them again when I require refinishing services.
