Three Generations of Hardwood Excellence
Backed by three generations and a team that's been with us for years, we bring consistency, craftsmanship and care to every home we step into.
A Legacy Begins
Just a few years after serving in World War II as a heavy equipment operator within Patton's Army, John Gorsegner Sr. returned home and began working on hardwood flooring jobs alongside his brother-in-law in Red Bank, NJ. In 1951, John Sr. took a leap of faith and launched John Gorsegner Hardwood Floors, landing a major project installing and finishing hardwood floors in 668 homes at Hamilton Gardens in Neptune Township, NJ. With just two helpers and a strong work ethic, the foundation of the Gorsegner legacy was built.
Built by Family
By the late 1950s, John Sr.'s sons, John Jr. and Fred, were already helping after school and on weekends—learning the trade from the ground up. During the 1960s, the company became deeply rooted in the community, maintaining the floors at the Middletown Town Hall five days a week. At the same time, John Jr. was serving in the Vietnam War. While away, he stayed connected through letters from home—often filled with updates, photos, and reminders of the business he would soon return to.
The Brothers
In 1969, John Jr. and Fred stepped in to take over the business, continuing to build on the reputation their father had earned. Their commitment to the community extended beyond their work, as both went on to serve as volunteer firefighters for over 50 years. As the second generation took the lead, the business continued to grow through hard work, consistency, and word-of-mouth. For years, operations ran out of John Jr.'s home—the same house where Dan grew up—before they took the next step and leased their first dedicated space in Belford in 1985. They later moved to Atlantic Highlands as the company continued to expand.
Raised in the Family Trade
Dan Gorsegner grew up in the business, learning the trade the same way the generations before him had—by being on the job. From helping with cleanup to working on active job sites throughout the community, he developed a deep appreciation for both the craft and the responsibility that comes with it. After a brief time pursuing a career in education, Dan realized his path was in the family business. In the early 2000s, he joined full-time, working alongside his father and uncle to continue building on decades of craftsmanship, relationships, and trust within the community.
Three Generations Strong
Between 2012 and 2015, John and Fred retired and officially passed the Gorsegner Brothers torch to Dan. In 2017, Dan moved the company to its current home in Holmdel—marking an exciting new chapter while staying true to everything the business was built on. That same year, the company proudly added the Infinite Love for Kids Fighting Cancer logo to its fleet of trucks. ILFK is a 100% volunteer-run childhood cancer foundation founded and run by Dan's wife Andrea. In 2022, Dan was nominated and appointed to the Board of Directors for the National Wood Flooring Association, where he continues to serve—representing both the craft and the values the company was built on. Today, Gorsegner Brothers continues to grow with multiple crews, a dedicated team, and a commitment to doing things the right way—serving the same communities that have supported them for generations.
